Streszczenia
This article aims at the presenting information, submitted by 28 European Union (EU) Member States, on the antimicrobial resistance of Salmonella and Campylobacter strains isolated from humans, food-producing animals and food of animal origin, in 2015. Salmonella and Campylobacter resistant to antimicrobials are of special concern since they might compromise the effective treatment of infections in humans. The data were analyzed quantitatively by using epidemiological cutoff (ECOFF) values. As in previous years, salmonellae from humans were mainly resistant to ampicillin, sulfonamides and tetracycline, while the percentage of isolates resistant to thirdgeneration cephalosporins generally remained at a low level. Salmonellae from animals and meat, were found resistant to ampicillin, tetracycline and sulfonamides, while resistance to third-generation cephalosporins was generally uncommon. Resistance to colistin was observed at low levels in Salmonella from fattening pigs and calves under one year and meat thereof. In Campylobacter from humans, high to extremely high proportions of isolates were resistant to ciprofloxacin and tetracycline, particularly in C.coli. High resistance to ciprofloxacin and tetracycline was observed in C.coli isolates from fattening pigs, whereas much lower levels were recorded for erythromycin.
