Streszczenia
African swine fever (ASF), as an acute viral disease of Suidae and as relevant factor influencing profitability of pork production, focuses particular attention of scientists, vets and farmers worldwide. Years of the epidemiological research on the African swine fever virus (ASFV), provided lots of more or less effective biosecurity measures designed to control spreading of the virus. Many animal species have been analyzed regarding to the potential of disease transmission, for example rats, insects or ticks. The aim of this article is the analysis of the current knowledge about ASFV transmission by soft and hard ticks according to the results of scientific research. The most important conclusion is the fact, that in contrast to soft ticks (Ornithodoros), which are commonly present in Africa and South Europe, there is no risk of the virus transmission by hard ticks (Ixodes ricinus and Dermacentor reticulates).
