Streszczenia
n December 2018, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), published their yearly report on the trends and sources of zoonoses and zoonotic agents in the European Union (EU) in 2017. Campylobacteriosis was still the most frequently reported zoonotic disease in the EU, with 246,158 laboratory confirmed cases (including 874 in Poland), which means the same EU level as in 2016. Poultry meat remained to be the most important food-borne source of Campylobacter spp., due to the high level of contamination.Salmonellosis was the second most commonly recorded zoonosis, with 91,662 confirmed cases (8,924 in Poland), which was a decrease compared with the 2016 report. Salmonella spp. was mainly reported from fresh poultry meat and products thereof, followed by fresh pig meat. Yersiniosis was identified in 6,823 cases (191 in Poland), which was almost the same number as in 2016. A total of 6,073 confirmed VTEC infections (4 in Poland), were reported. The number of human listeriosis cases decreased by 2.2%, as compared to 2016. There were 2,480 confirmed infections (an increase to 116 cases in Poland), with 227 deaths. The cases of Q fever and Francisella tularensis infections were 928 and 321 (0 and 30 Poland), respectively, whereas the number of Brucella spp. and Mycobacterium bovis zoonotic infections were 378 (2 in Poland), and 185 (0 in Poland), respectively.
