This article aims at the issues of current regulations of GMO food and feed used for animal and human nutrition. The organisms, whose genome has been changed using genetic engineering techniques are referred as GMOs. The use of GMOs in food and feed production raises a lot of controversies and fears in a public, that are related to the impact of GMOs on human and animals health and the environment. Legal regulations applicable in European Union concern the introduction of GMOs on the markets and the permissions for GM crops and also force labelling of products containing GMOs, that in turn results in necessity for development of new methods allowing proper identification of GMOs. These solutions provide a high level of protection of the environment and human and animals health. Moreover, labeling of products containing GMOs enables the consumers their conscious choice.
