This paper is presenting data from the EFSA Journal 2017,15(3):4732, prepared by EFSA in collaboration with the ASF (African Swine Fever) affected Member States of the European Union: Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania (called the Baltic Republics) and Poland, as an information pointed toward veterinary practitioners. Data, mentioning the introduction of ASFV in Georgia and spread of the virus to the Russian Federation, Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova were given, followed by the characterization of the epidemic in the Baltic Republics and Poland. On the basis of EFSA investigations, the epidemic which has started in the beginning of 2014 and which continues to persist, is defined as a small-scale epidemic. In wild boar population two peaks in the number of killed animals were distinguished: one in winter and second in summer. The risk factor analysis has shown an association between the number of settlements, human and domestic pigs population sizes or wild boar population density and the presence/persistence of ASF in wild boar for Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
